When I’m entertaining (and feeling rushed) and dessert is the last thing I need to cram in before dinner guests arrive, my fall-back plan is always these chocolate fudge brownies. I might have grand plans to whip up a three layer raspberry cake, but when the clock’s ticking and floors need to be vacuumed (and I need a shower!), these chocolate brownies are my saving grace, as are these oh-so-good blondies from Smitten Kitchen. And when kids enter the mix, these are a no-brainer. Sure, kids will most likely love any dessert placed before them…but fudge brownies and vanilla ice cream? Now we’re talking.
These chocolate fudge brownies are my go-to for a few reasons, one being how fast they can be made and popped into the oven. Also, when guests arrive to a home filled with the scent of chocolate brownies baking, well, that’s a good thing. I’ve never timed myself—although that could be fun (yes, my definition of fun is likely pretty different than yours:)—but I’m confident they can be whipped up in under 5 minutes. Two, they are THE BEST fudge brownies. I know, I know. Every foodie says the same. Truth talk: people feel strongly about brownie recipes. As do I. So, why are these brownies THE best, you ask? Well, for starters, they are gooey, very gooey, and SO rich, which, when it comes to brownies, is a very good thing.
Another reason to make these brownies the next time you’re entertaining or looking for a quick, easy, crowd-pleasing treat? These are tried-and-true. For decades people, decades. This recipe originates from my mum’s Massey Vanier High School reunion cookbook and she’s been making them forever. Over the years, so many of my friends have dropped their other brownie recipes for this one. So ya, they’re the best.
Side note: are you all about the edges, or do you prefer your brownies from the middle? Let me know in the comments!
